The England U21 international underwent a medical on Monday evening and is expected to be confirmed as an Arsenal player once personal terms are finalised.

Arsenal have had a £2million bid accepted for Bolton Wanderers defender Rob Holding.

Holding has only played 30 first-team games for Bolton but the 20-year-old did enough to impress Arsene Wenger’s scouts that he had a bright future.

Bournemouth also showed interest and made an offer but Arsenal have always been Holding’s preferred destination.

Arsenal had an initial £1.2million offer rejected, they revised their offer to improve bonus payments but that was also rejected.

Holding began his career with Wanderers at the age of seven, progressing through the youth ranks before joining League Two Bury on loan in March 2015.

He made just one appearance for the Shakers before returning to make his Bolton debut that August in a 1–0 League Cup defeat to Burton Albion.

The Englishman finally broke into the club’s senior squad this year and made an instant impact, being named the Trotters’ Player of the Season at the end of the term.

However, he was unable to prevent the club finishing bottom of the Championship and being relegated to League One.

Bolton will now open talks over a contract for free agent David Wheater.

Arsenal winger Wellington Silva has rejoined Fluminense after six loan moves over six years and not a single appearance for the Gunners.

The Brazilian winger was last seen on loan at Bolton, scoring twice in 22 games.

Wellington will now hope to get a regular run of games under his belt with Flu after his premature move to Europe backfired.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are still in the hunt for a striker but may have to almost double their transfer record to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli.
