StarTimes Bundesliga scores round up

Bundesliga’s first week of the 2016/2017 season kicked off this weekend on StarTimes World Football Channel with Bayern Munich thrashing Werder Bremen 6-0.

Borussia Dortmund followed Bayern Munich’s lead by winning their opening game of the Bundesliga season on Saturday, although it was not plain sailing.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on target twice as the Westphalians beat Mainz 2-1, Yoshinori Muto’s consolation scant reward for a strong Mainz side.

Borussia Monchengladbach continued their winning form from DFB-Pokal and Champions League play-off matches by beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 on Saturday evening.

Andre Hahn and Lars Stindl scored the goals for the Foals with Joel Pohjanpalo’s first Bundesliga goal not enough for the Werkself.

Elsewhere, Cologne impressed in a 2-0 win over Darmstadt with Marcel Risse and Anthony Modeste on target, while Wolfsburg won in Augsburg by the same scoreline.

Daniel Didavi and Ricardo Rodriguez supplied the goals for Dieter Hecking’s men, who do not have European football to distract them this season after finishing eighth last season.

Their hosts are also without European football this term after their memorable maiden campaign in the Europa League last year, while their new coach Dirk Schuster appears to have a challenge on his hands as Markus Weinzierl’s replacement.

Weinzierl did not have things his own way on his debut as Schalke coach with Eintracht Frankfurt getting the better of his team thanks to their prolific midfielder Alexander Meier.

His goal was enough for a 1-0 win over the Royal Blues, while he could also afford to miss a penalty in a game which saw on-loan Chelsea defender Michael Hector dismissed on his Bundesliga debut.

Finally, Hamburg had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Ingolstadt as Lukas Hinterseer, who also equalised in the corresponding fixture last season, cancelled out Bobby Wood’s first Bundesliga goal to leave much of the Volksparkstadion disappointed.
