Former cabinet minister Charity Ngilu has become the second Governor of Kitui County.

This is after Ms. Ngilu trounced her rivals David Musila and the incumbent Julius Malombe.

As at 9am, Mrs. Ngilu had garnered 135, 934 votes. Coming in second was David Musila who had secured 88,530 votes. The out-going Governor Julius Malombe had gotten 57,703 votes.

1,163 polling stations had returned their results out of the total 1,454 polling stations.

The county has 474,512 registered voters.

The victory is seen as a come back for Mrs. Ngilu who lost her ministerial post in the Jubilee government following corruption allegations.

It is however, a blow for Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka whose candidate Malombe was trailing third .
