Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu and Senator Amos Wako have been a couple for over two decades. This has been revealed by a weekly newspaper owned by The Standard Media Group.

According to the weekly, Ms. Mwilu and Mr. Wako have been keeping their relationship under wraps to a majority of Kenyans.

“Amos Wako, a father of two, met and fell in love with Philomena Mwilu, a mother of three, in 1997, the year Kenya held its second multi-party elections,” the weekly reports.

Apparently, Mr. Wako met and fell in love with DCJ Mwilu at a time when she was working as head of legal department at Jubilee Insurance Company.

“I remember they met over some issues that were affecting Mwilu at her company. Some millions had been stolen and Mwilu had sought help from the Attorney General to have the culprits brought to book,” the weekly quoted a friend of Wako and Mwilu saying.

It further added that DCJ Mwilu had dumped a now very powerful man in Parliament for Wako, who was ‘considered single but married’. He was married to Flora Wako.

Their relationship was revealed in July 2011 when DCJ Mwilu was a High Court judge.

Apparently, Lawyer Eric K’Omollo had lodged an application by six women’s groups who wanted Mwilu stopped from hearing their case due to her closeness to the Attorney General in what they argued could be a conflict of interest.

Apparently, Justice Mwilu, while defending herself, said her affair with Mr. Wako was “in the public domain”, and there was “nothing to hide”.

“Lady Justice Mwilu is now known as Wako’s de facto second wife,” the weekly reported.
