Meru Governor Peter Munya has rejected gubernatorial results showing that he had lost to Jubilee’s Kiraitu Murungi.

Munya further said that he was joining the opposition NASA coalition in denouncing the results for the presidential contest in which President Uhuru Kenyatta has defeated his arch rival Raila Odinga.

He claimed that the results were rigged.

According to the results, as at 5pm, Kiraitu was ahead of his closest challenger Peter Munya by 50,000 votes.

Kiraitu had garnered 271,140 votes compared to Munya’s 221,591 votes.

Former assistant minister Kilemi Mwiria was a distant third with 16,596 votes as at 5pm.

Strikingly, Munya, who had declared support for President Uhuru’s re-election had been endorsed by NASA’s Raila Odinga in a move that was meant to sway his supporters into supporting NASA.

The wins by Kiraitu has beaten predictions by opinion pollsters who had observed that Munya was going to win.
