Kenyan nurses have given February 1 as the date they’ll be going on strike again. The nurses have complained that the pay deal they entered into with the government is not reflecting on their pay slips.

The deal struck on December 16 by the nurses, Ministry of Health and the Council of Governors offered nurses an annual payout of Sh20,000 for those between Job groups G-L and Sh15,000 for nurses in Job Groups M and above.

Sixty per cent of this increment was to be paid in January next year and the remainder on July 1 next year.

However, according to Kenya National Union of Nurses secretary-general Seth Panyako, the government is not serious about implementing the deal as agreed and signed.

During the December negotiations, Mr. Panyako had stormed out of meeting accusing the negotiating team from the Ministry of Health and the Council of Governos of lacking seriousness.
