Riots have rocked Mitaboni in Machakos County following the killings of five guards in a gang attack that left four other security officers injured.

Three guards died on the spot, according to Kathiani OCPD Mildred Odima.

One more guard succumbed to his injuries at Kathiani Level 4 Hospital while the fifth died on the way to Makueni District Hospital.

The injured guards had to be taken to Makueni District Hospital as doctors in Machakos County are on strike.

Mr Osman Mohammed, the officer in charge of Kenol Police Station said they had to shoot in the air to disperse the protestors.

During the demonstrations, residents asked Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to intervene over rising insecurity in the area.
