Five bodies have been found buried in a shallow grave in Mandera.

The bodies belonged to persons who had been reported missing by the families. They were discovered by herders.

The herders said they were grazing their animals when they stumbled on the grave and later alerted authorities. Some of them accused local security operatives of being behind the murder and burial of the four men and a woman.

The five were from Fino ward but their bodies were found in Warankara ward, about 65 kilometres away.

Last Friday, the bodies of two other people were discovered buried at Border Point One in Mandera East after they were reported missing by their relatives.

Witnesses who presided over the exhumation of the bodies said one of the male bodies had a bullet wound on the head and the rest appeared to have been strangled.
